TEPEEThe charity is run by voluntary committee who meet every other month. All members are invited to become committee members. We have a Chair, a secretary and a treasurer and a core group of committee members who are representatives of Devon County Council, Surestart, Homestart, Devon childminding services, Playlines, Family Education services, Devon library services, Devonplay, Pre-school Learning Alliance (PLA), playworkers and pre-school workers. Tepee employs two part-time staff: Theo TanserI am TEPEE's Project Co-ordinator and Development Worker. I was originally taken on by Tepee as assistant co-ordinator in March 2002, but took over from Jackie in October 2002. I was previously working as manager of the Play Zone after school and Holiday club in Buckfastleigh, where I worked closely with the community development worker to provide a cohesive range of services for the children of Buckfastleigh. I set this club up in 1998 and while working there completed my level 2 and level 3 NVQ in Playwork. My love of playwork stems from the work that my parents initiated in the 1960's and 70's using community artist's to work in new and exiting ways in unusual places ( shopping centres, waste grounds, adventure playgrounds etc) engaging children and young people in imaginative and creative play. I have always felt strongly about giving children freedom to express themselves and play is the natural way in which children do this. I also feel that children and young people should be given the right to have a say in what is provided for them. I enjoy developing new and interesting ways of working with children and believe in pushing boundaries and challenging old ideas, so that life for me and the children I work with is never boring. I love to work with people and providers and like to encourage people to work together to create something really special, so putting on the big Play Days last year was a real pleasure. In my spare time I enjoy Yoga, walking, gardening and making mosaics. Adele RennellsI am TEPEE’s Assistant Co-ordinator. My role is to manage our membership database, inform and arrange training for our members and others working with children in the Teignbridge area. In addition I assist with running our Freewheeling and Play in the Park projects, plus Playdays. I also produce the TEPEE newsletter and manage our website. I’ve only been with TEPEE since 2003, but I am not new to the play world; having previously run environmental play workshops for both TEPEE and Devonplay when I was education ranger at Haldon Forest. I have held positions of project assistant for Devonplay, and play development & scrapstore assistant for Exeter City Council, and playworker/administrator for Hennock Pre-school. I particularly enjoy the outdoor play work TEPEE are involved with, as well as exploring the countryside in my own time, and being an active member of local conservation groups.
Steve Bowers I have been working with TEPEE as a Play Ranger since the Spring of 2006. I finished my University studies in 1998, and spent the following seven years working part-time and generally trying to avoid getting a proper job. After a couple of periods travelling, where I was variously robbed, ripped off and held against my will, I returned to England with the intention of studying to become a Primary school teacher. A year of PGCE training taught me one valuable lesson – I really didn’t want to be a teacher. I still enjoyed and wanted to work with children, so started volunteering with the charity Home Start. This gave me valuable experience of working with families and children, and from this I gained employment as a Play Worker at an after-school club, and a Project Worker for Home-Start. During this period I attained my NVQ Level 2 in Playwork, and in Spring 2008 I shall be doing a Level 3 Forest School Leaders Course. Working as a Play Ranger means that I’m employed to go to the park and play, and sometimes I have to pinch myself that I get paid for it. When not Play Rangering, I like to spend time outdoors with friends and family. Playing.
