TEPEE NEWS Big Lottery Play funding You may have seen in the press that Teignbridge has been successful in its application to the BIG lottery Play Fund and has been granted £230,000 for 4 play projects over three years. We are very pleased to announce that two of these projects will be delivered by TEPEE. Project 1 is a Play Ranger project that will cover 4 parks over the next 3 years. Play Ranger sessions are free open access play sessions for children in their local park. There will be one session a week in 4 parks for a year each, however we will be looking to access further funding and ways of making this service a sustainable one so that they can continue beyond the life of the current funding. Project 2 is ‘Play in the Park’ which will work with local parish councils to provide play sessions on their play spaces and parks. We will work with the communities to encourage more use of parks and do some consultation on how to improve existing facilities. This work will be backed up by support from Teignbridge council for voluntary services (CVS) who can provide information to parish councils about funding to make improvements to their parks. We are very excited about this new work and Adele and I are rolling up our sleeves in preparation for a lot of hard work over the next 3 years. We hope to start delivery of these projects in May and will be recruiting a small team of Play workers to work on both projects. See job advert in employment section, and on our website.
The next Surestart Play day we are organising is on Saturday 24th March at Broadmeadow sports centre from 1-4pm. The theme is Active Play and it will be a fun packed afternoon with lots of physical and sporty activities for young children and their families. We now have our new brochures for the TEPEE Resource Library. So, please have a browse through and see if there is anything that you would like to borrow for your play setting. Contact Adele on her new number 07982 591606 to arrange hire and collection. TEPEE attended the last Teignbridge Network meeting in February and displayed our musical instruments for hire. We asked Sarah van Veen to come and demonstrate how we might use the instruments with young children. It was a fun evening and Sarah had us all singing and playing and gave us some very good ideas. She also gave us handouts with all her ideas. If you would like one when borrowing the musical instruments, just ask.
