Teign Housing - Tidy up day at Buckland

Teign Housing asked Tepee to come along to their event to do a short workshop to produce a Christmas card with the children. Tepee workshop leaders bought in a huge pile of interesting objects and materials and asked the children to lay out a giant winter scene on the floor. The children liked the idea and made a house, a winter tree and some characters all over looked by a huge winter sun. Teign Housing then came and took a photo of it to be made into a card. The children also had the chance to make some traditional cards of their own to take home. Other things on offer at Buckland community hall; a free lunch, a graffiti wall and a junk band, wow what an exciting day. There were also information stands from Teignbridge District council, Teign Housing, and Buckland and Milber residents association. Earlier in the day local residents had the opportunity to dump their large items of rubbish and go out picking up litter around the estate.
Thursday 27th October
Teign Valley Children’s Centre fun day at Oakford Lawn in Kingsteignton.
A very wet and rainy day, so all activities were relocated to the community hall. Tepee provided two drop in workshop; a bug making workshop from Funky Junk using natural clay and beautiful natural materials such as seed pods, leaves and feathers, and a splatter painting firework pictures workshop. Other activities on offer were kite making, storytelling, face painting, baby corner and an earth tray. Refreshments of fruit and juice were also available. 40 children came and enjoyed the day, braving the awful weather to come out and play. They all went home loaded up with things they had made. What a lovely morning we had!

Fun and games with Tepee
On the evening of Thursday 16th June 2011 a group of playful people met on the lakeside at Decoy Park. There was a wide range of people including parents and children, child-minders, Children’s centre workers, Play England and ex-play rangers.
The Chair of Tepee, Sue Bolt gave a short talk about Tepee and where the organisation is at the moment.
‘Suffering from the economic downturn as so many small charities are, Tepee has had to reduce its overheads and sadly, make redundancies. This means that at the moment Tepee is run by a small group of volunteers, and so Tepee’s capacity to deliver play sessions is greatly reduced. However the Trustees are taking this time to re-assess the work of Tepee and work towards a strategic plan that will, hopefully see Tepee become more active again in the coming months. The website is still updated and is the place to look to see what we are up to, and you can contact us by phone or email.’
After this ‘play’ was the order of the evening, starting with a crazy game, where everyone had to make animal noises and find their pair (much to the amusement of the Beavers and scouts having a BBQ nearby!). Then a choice of playing a water game, an earth pigment painting workshop from ‘Funky Junk’, clay faces or pebble poetry. There was great interest in how the natural paints were made, and those involved with the water play had fun chasing each other and trying to avoid getting very wet. Everyone had fun and learnt some new skills and ideas to use with the children they work with. As the sun went down over the lake it was time to go and a happy band of tired play-workers went home, saying how good it was to play.

Fun Day at Chudleigh!
TEPEE working in partnership with Daisy Chain Pre-school, and the Teign Valley Children’s Centre (an Action for Children centre, run on behalf of Devon County Council), delivered an under 5’s fun session to celebrate the completion of a new build in Chudleigh.
The project which has been 3 years in the making will accommodate the 1st Chudleigh Scouts, Daisy Chain Pre-school and the Teign Valley Children’s Centre. Delivery from the new build will take place at the start of the new school term in Autumn 2011.
The event which took place on Wednesday 13th July 2011, complemented Chudfest which, building on the traditions of Chudleigh Carnival week, was about organisations in the community providing a mix of activities and fun-filled events for all ages of the community.
There were in excess of 50 families attending the fun day. Activities provided by TEPEE included face-painting, play-dough, soft play and banner-making. The banner depicting the name of Teign Valley Children’s Centre will be hung in the new build.
The official opening of the new build will take place on the 3rd September.
